The section of freeway between I-45 and I-30, known as the "Canyon", is slated to be entirely rebuilt, with work scheduled to begin in 2025.
The interchange at I-45 will not be affected by the upcoming canyon project. However, long-term plans include the replacement of the I-45 interchange in conjunction with the reconstruction of I-345 on the east side of downtown to lower the freeway below ground level. The earliest the I-345 work could begin is the 2030s.
