The Chisholm trail parkway opened in 2014. The south section from Crowley Plover Road/FM 1187 in Tarrant County to U.S. Highway 67 in Johnson County was built with only two lanes (one each way). In May 2025 NTTA approved a $189 million contract to build two additional main lanes in this section, bringing the toll road to a standard 4-lane freeway design. Construction began in summer 2025 and is scheduled for completion in late 2028.
